What is Cream of Tartar?
Cream of Tartar (a.k.a. Potassium Bitartrate) is a by-product of wine production. It is a residue left on the barrels when after making wine. Typical applications range from food production to industrial manufacturing throughout the UK. It is commonly a white powder with a mildly acidic taste and no discernible odour.
With its wide use in food and beverage production, you can find this in products ranging from wine stabilisation and as a chemical yeast (when paired with Sodium Bicarbonate). Additionally, it is a critical component in sodium-free salt, as an anti-caking agent, and prevents syrups from crystallising.
