Overview: What is Sodium Ascorbate?

A mineral salt of Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbate is an additive used in a range of industries. It is commonly sold as a white powder and is easily dissolvable.

The manufacture of Sodium Ascorbate occurs by dissolving Ascorbic Acid in water with the same volume of Sodium Bicarbonate. Once this has combined, the solution is precipitated by the addition of isopropanol. The resulting solid is then milled, purified and packaged before transport throughout the world.

The primary property for Sodium Ascorbate is two-fold. It is a source of both Vitamin C (from Ascorbic Acid) and Sodium (from the Sodium Bicarbonate). in 1,000mg of Sodium Ascorbate, there is approximately 11.1% of Sodium and 88.9% Ascorbic Acid.

Sodium Ascorbate finds itself a good option for many applications, with its composition lending itself to both Ascorbic And Sodium carbonate uses. As such, you can find it being used as an anti-oxidant in products ranging from meat preserving to sauces and many more. Beyond the food industry, you can discover Sodium Ascorbate in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, sports nutrition and beyond due to its concentrated Sodium and Vitamin C content.
