Sodium Metabisulphite (Also known as Sodium Pyrosulphite) is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula Na2S2O5. It is manufactured by treating Sodium Hydroxide solutions with sulphur dioxide. This creates a yellow solid that is treated further with SO2, it is dissolved into a white to colourless solid.
You can find Sodium Metabisulphite as a common disinfectant, antioxidant and preservative in countless products. Examples of this include within the food, pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
Food and Beverage companies use this product as a preservative in fruit for transport and storage, in jams, wines and many other beverage, and even as a reducing agent in baked goods.
