What is Potassium Bicarbonate?
A white solid used in food, beverage, industrial and agricultural industries, milled potassium bicarbonate is a salty, odourless powder for sale and supply.
Manufacturing potassium bicarbonate occurs by creating a carbon dioxide and potassium carbonate solution. When mixed, the below reaction occurs:
K2CO3 + H2O + CO2 -> 2KHCO3
Following this reaction, it is dried, purified and then milled prior to packing and dispatch.
In terms of application, potassium bicarbonate has four primary uses. These are leavening, winemaking, agriculture and fire extinguishing. As a leavening agent, potassium bicarbonate replaces the bicarbonate of soda (sodium bicarbonate) to reduce sodium levels in baking and in other foods and beverages (e.g. club soda).
Additionally, applied medicines use this product as a reagent, pH buffer and a key component in fire extinguishers and fertilizers to enrich the soil.
