25 Kilo Bag Option for Potassium Chloride

Overview: What is Potassium Chloride?

A white to colourless crystal, Potassium Chloride, is used in a range of industries and applications. With a mildly salty but partially metallic taste, its properties are similar to table salt, making it a powerful, low sodium alternative.

The manufacture of Potassium Chloride occurs by extracting the minerals in potash or from salt salt-containing waters predominantly. Additionally, a popular route of manufacture is via the reaction between Potassium Hydroxide and Hydrochloric Acid. It creates the below chemical change:

KOH + HCl = KCl + H2O

Following this reaction, evaporating the solution separates the water from the Potassium Chloride, creating solid crystals.

Some of the most common applications are fertilizer and medicinal applications. As a potassium-based product, Potassium Chloride can treat mineral deficiencies in hospitals. Beyond this, a range of "Low Sodium" Food products use it as an alternative to salt. This application includes soups, snacks and gravies, to name three. However, some consumers have found a mild metallic taste in higher percentages of the final product. As such, it is used in lower amounts or blended with Sodium Chloride to mitigate this taste. Other more niche applications include a welding flux, fire extinguishers and several other industrial applications.
